There are several forms of ancient Asian massage still being practiced in the world today. Asian massage techniques are ancient healing rituals developed over the centuries in India and the Far East. Thai massage, shiatsu and asian massage are becoming more and more popular in the west as more people become interested in pilates, yoga and other more holistic forms of exercise and relaxation.
Thai massage actually started in India. It is a form of massage using guided stretching and Meridian pressure point therapy in combination with an ancient breathing method called “Pranayama.” This technique uses breathing techniques to relax and cleanse the body while strengthening the nervous system. Sessions usually end with a ritualized final relaxation that most customers find intensely restful.
Chinese acupressure or “tui na” was developed over 5000 years ago. By applying pressure to the body at certain key points, the acupressure therapist helps the body to activate its own self-healing abilities. Acupressure has been used for centuries to treat back pain, headaches and migraines, stress and anxiety. It is deeply relaxing and can have the added benefit of assisting the patient with weight management.
Japanese Shiatsu is another type of massage developed in the Far East. It concentrates on energy rebalance and physical well-being using the thumbs, palms and fingers to apply pressure to certain areas of the body. Benefits of this type of massage include rebalancing of the bone system, enhanced circulatory function, maintaining balance of the nervous system and greater skin and muscle flexibility.
Indonesian Javanese massage is a system of massage that uses all parts of the hand, including the knuckles, to knead and massage the muscles. Usually a massage oil is used to facilitate the therapy. This massage works on the muscles and nerves to relieve tension, back pain and aid in the healing of fractures. Of all of the Asian massages, this is the most robust, and the massage is often painful, although greatly beneficial in the long run.
Whatever your preferences, there are many ancient Asian massage treatments to choose from. Explore your massage options by adding one of these interesting and beneficial massages to your health regimen.

An Introduction to Detox Diets

Posted by | Posted in Diet Food | Posted on 27-09-2009

Detoxifying the body has become an apparent key preventetive measure to all kind’s of health problems. Since most of us are busy, and unable or unwilling to maintain a strict diet in order to completely eliminate all the toxins from our bodie. We have chemicals building up in our bodiess day after day. Since these chemicals are not harmful in small amounts, only in larger accumulated amounts, we don’t notice side effects until we are much older. A proper, even if occasional, detox diet is necessary to relieve our bodies of harmful toxins and chemicals, and maintain a healthy, normal, and long-lived life.
The main idea of a detox diet is to eliminate nearly all foods and restrict the body to only water and veggetables for a few days, usually around 5 or 6 days is adequate. Most detox diets then allow for a slow re-introduction of other foods, gradually. The diets generally restrict foods from your diet that are said to have harmful toxins. Along with this a detox diet should then flush the existing toxins out of the body. A detox diet essentially gives the liver and other organ’s a chance to catch up and remove all the toxins. This is done through our sweat, feces, and urine. Our bodies simply cannot cope with the normal day to day ingestion of chemicals. Most these chemicals come from foods, as mentioned before, but also have a wide variety of other sources. Although we do not know what foods are the cause of it all, we do know that pesticides, heavy metals, such as mercury and lead, and the chemicals in ciggerttes and the air we breath, all enter our bodys via our lungs or stomach and can cause an excessive build up. These chemicals in small amounts are harmless, its the day after day ingestion and build up of them which can lead to degenerative diseases.
One common detox diet is the combination of nothing but fruits and water for a given period. The promotion of chemicals being matabilized by our bodies can be helped with certain vitamins, herbs and supplements. Some supplements will help the mobilization of toxin’s in our fat and other toxin deposit’s located throughout the body. Since our bodies rid themselves of chemicals through sweat, sauna therapies can also provide a great benefit. There are many other diet’s and detox therapies, these are just a few common methods. Regular body detoxification is a good preventative action and promotes a healthier present and future!

Air Purifiers

Posted by | Posted in General tips | Posted on 27-09-2009

Breathing is something that is vital to life. It is something we all do and need to do constantly to enable us to live. If you are not doing it now then I’m sorry but you cannot continue to read this, as you are dead.
This article is not about breathing though; it is about what we breathe. Well, that is obvious, air. Yep, but let us, for a minute, think about what may be in the air we breathe.
Apart from the components of air such as oxygen, which is the bit we need, the air you breathe is full of other particles and you need to think about an air purifier to filter these potentially harmful particles out of the air or in other words purify the air. I am sure you have seen sunlight coming through you windows and when you are at a certain angle you have seen dust particles floating in the air. You breathe these in unless you can use an air purifier to remove them or hopefully most of them. Its not only dust though, people and animals drop flakes of dead skin which is why you need an air purifier. Tobacco smoke produces particles of smoke, which is why you need an air purifier, and vehicles also produce particles of smoke from their engines, which is why you need an air purifier.
So what do air purifiers do? Quite simply they filter the air that you breathe near to them. They help to purify the air and remove airborne particles. There are many different types of air purifiers and these can be systems designed to purify all the air in your entire house down to small systems which work in a single room. They filter out all sorts of things such as smoke, dust and particles of dust and dead skin from your pets. Just remember though, they cannot filter out all particles but they can purify the air fairly well.
There is another type of air purifier, the HEPA type which can filter out particles down to 3 microns in size and can catch 99.9% of these particles. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance purifiers.
There are also ozone air purifiers but some people have suggested that these may not be good for you. I do not have the answer to this but until I am convinced of their usefulness, I will stick to an HEPA filter.
Before you buy your air purifier you need to make sure it suits your needs so make sure you carry out internet research and check manufacturers brochures. Whatever you decide though, there is nothing to beat having a look at one and seeing it operating before you buy. Remember, there is nothing worse than buying an air purifier only to find out it is so noisy that you cannot be in the same room when your air purifier is operating.

10 Essential Food Safety Tips For AIDS Sufferers

Posted by | Posted in General tips | Posted on 26-09-2009

Persons with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) are especially susceptible to illness from food-borne pathogens. Because they’re at higher risk for severe illness or death, affected persons must be vigilant when handling and cooking foods. Here are some recommendations to help prevent bacterial food-borne illness.
1. When shopping for raw and cooked perishable foods, be sure the food is being stored at a safe temperature in the store. Don’t select perishable food from a non-refrigerated aisle display. Never choose packages which are torn or leaking.
2. When ordering food from the deli department, be sure the clerk washes his hands between handling raw and cooked items or puts on new plastic gloves. Don’t buy cooked ready-to-eat items which are touching raw items or are displayed in the same case.
3. Don’t buy cans that are dented, leaking, or bulging; food in cracked glass jars; or food in torn packaging. Tamper- resistant safety seals should be intact. Safety buttons on metal lids should be down and should not move or make a clicking noise when pushed. Do not use any product beyond its expiration date!
4. Immediately refrigerate or freeze perishable foods after transporting them home. Make sure thawing juices from meat and poultry do not drip on other foods. Leave eggs in their carton for storage and don’t place them in the door of the refrigerator. Keep the refrigerator clean.
5. Food stored constantly at 0 °F will always be safe. Only the quality suffers with lengthy storage. It’s of no concern if a product date expires while the product is frozen. Freezing keeps food safe by preventing the growth of micro- organisms that cause both food spoilage and food-borne illness. Once thawed, however, these microbes can again become active so handle thawed items as any perishable food.
6. Store canned foods and other shelf stable products in a cool, dry place. Never put them above the stove, under the sink, in a damp garage or basement, or any place exposed to high or low temperature extremes.
7. Wash hands, utensils, can openers, cutting boards, and countertops in hot, soapy water before and after coming in contact with raw meat, poultry, or fish.
8. Many cases of food-borne illness are caused by take-out, restaurant, and deli-prepared foods. Avoid the same foods when eating out as you would at home. Meat, poultry, and fish should be ordered well done; if the food arrives undercooked, it should be sent back.
9. Wash cutting boards with hot, soapy water after each use; then rinse and air dry or pat dry with fresh paper towels. Non-porous acrylic, plastic, or glass boards and solid wood boards can be washed in an automatic dishwasher (laminated boards may crack and split).
10. Do not eat raw or undercooked meat, poultry, fish, or eggs. For people with AIDS, the most important thing is to use a meat thermometer to be sure meat, fish, eggs, and casseroles reach at least 160 °F. Roast whole poultry to 180 °F; poultry breasts to 170 °F. When reheating foods in the microwave, cover and rotate or stir foods once or twice during cooking and check the food in several spots with a thermometer.

9 Hair Styling Secrets of the Top Salons

You may not be able to visit an expensive salon, but you can take advantage of these styling tips from some top hair stylists.
Create Soft Waves – Blow dry your hair straight. Spray Evian (or other bottled water) on hair with a pressurized spray bottle. Let hair dry naturally.
Quick Wavy Look Tip 1 – Part your hair on the sides and loosely braid the pieces that frame your face. Blow dry these pieces for a few minutes. Let your hair cool down before unbraiding it. Results: Your hair will be straight at the top and wavy on the bottom.
Quick Wavy Look Tip 2 – Part your hair into 1-inch sections. Roll sections up into pin curls and secure with hair clips or bobby pins. Put your shower cap on and jump into the shower. The steam will set your hair as you shower. Remove the cap afterward. Take the clips out of your hair and shake your now wavy hair out.
Elegant Updo Tip 1 – Tease your hair lightly at the crown before pulling it into a French Twist. This creates more fullness.
Elegant Updo Tip 2 – Add a few drops of shine serum product before twisting hair into place to give your updo a polished look.
Hair Coloring Tip – Keep hair that’s been color-treated healthy by immediately applying a professional deep conditioner after hair has been dyed. This adds moisture and protects your hair from being over processed.
Best Blow Dryer – Invest in a blow dryer that has a nozzle to control air flow and a diffuser for curly styles.
Ionic Hair Products – Use an ionic blow dryer and iron because they lock in moisture. Hair becomes shinier and easier to manage.
Updated Hot Rollers – Battery operated hot rollers are great for curly hair styles and, best of all, they’re portable.
